Flame Retardant MDF Sheet Cut to Size Details
Flame Retardant MDF also known as FR MDF sheeting is an engineered wood product meant for spaces requiring additional fire protection and compliance with European building codes and regulations. Cut to size FR MDF can slow the spread of fire for up to 30 minutes, making these panels perfect for demanding applications in which standard MDF could not perform as well.
Made to measure fire rated MDF board is a premium engineered wood product meant for indoor, non-structural applications in dry conditions. The ability to slow the spread of fire makes flame-resistant MDF sheeting ideal for wall linings, partitions, display panels, ceilings and interiors of public buildings.

Safety Flame Retardant MDF Sheet
MDF, or Medium Density Fibreboard, is an engineered wood product. To create an MDF board, softwood fibres are broken down and combined with durable wax or resin to bind them together, which creates an exceptionally strong wooden panel. MDF is also lighter than comparable wooden sheets, making it easier to fit and handle.
A heat-repellent resin is chosen for this mix to ensure the wood can slow the spread of fire by up to 30 minutes. This allows a cut to size FR MDF to be used in dry, indoor environments and is preferable for domestic and commercial use, which require wood boards with a Euro Class rating of C or above.
Cut to size fire rated MDF is ideal for home and commercial environments, especially if the project must comply with building regulations. FR MDF is the preferred wood sheet to use in public spaces like houses of multiple occupation, schools, hospitals, public libraries, hotels and leisure buildings, or high-traffic areas such as exhibitions, fairs, and indoor playgrounds.
Made to measure Flame Retardant panels are free from imperfections, patches, and knots. The surface of an fire rated MDF sheet is attractive and even. This sheeting has a reddish—pink colour to mark its special use but can be easily painted, varnished, or veneered if necessary. However, a coating not designated as Flame Retardant will lower the fire class of FR wooden sheeting.
Unlike timber wood sheets, Flame Retardant MDF boards offer the same thickness and size across the panel, resulting in a desirable uniformity. This won’t change with time, so they are perfect for lasting shopfitting, internal joinery, and wall panelling.

However, we recommend using appropriate face and eye protection when working with MDF, as the sawdust and particles released during the process can act as irritants. FR MDF boards should be cut in large, well-ventilated spaces, and a respirator needs to be worn during the process.
When using made to measure FR MDF in its raw state, it is best to seal the exposed edges with primer to maintain the flame-retardant resin for longer and ensure the material’s longevity.
Properties of FR MDF Sheeting
Our FR MDF panels are available in 12mm FR MDF and 18mm flame retardant MDF thicknesses. We offer full-sized panels, cut to size pieces, and shapes. The maximum sheet size available is 2440 mm by 1220 mm.
FR MDF can be effortlessly and securely glued, dowelled, or fixed with screws, as it does not split easily. You can fit a moisture resistant MDF board yourself with minimal tools and effort. MDF is easy to screw and does not bend or crack, provided a sufficient distance from the edge is chosen, and appropriate pilot holes are drilled beforehand.
Our cut to size, flame retardant MDF sheeting is FSC® Certified, CE Marked. FR MDF sheeting complies with Euroclass B or C fire rating, making it compliant with BS 476 as well as CARB2. The MDF boards we supply are sustainably sourced, so you can enjoy an affordable, dependable wood product, knowing the environment was not harmed by its production.
FR MDF panels are flame retardant but not fire or humid-resistant, so they should be used in dry, indoor conditions.
